Housing improvements within informal settlements
Community: Jogen Babu Maath slum, Bangladesh
Partner: Housing & Hazards
Leading on from phase one of SAFE's slum upgrading scheme in an informal settlement of northern Bangladesh, the project involves participatory design and construction of safe, affordable and culturally sensitive housing. We worked with the Rana family to create a double storey bamboo prototype which exhibits a range of design improvements to meet the family's needs and address the temporary nature of the site.
Section: Drain to street
Supporting households in self-built housing offers an opportunity to rapidly increase the supply of safe, low income housing. We're now working with Jogen Babu Maath to improve community drainage and sanitation. Phase three will also champion community-driven design.
