How might we (re)design the process of cooking to improve health?

Welcome to the world of human-centred design. It’s a design approach that starts with a deep understanding of the people you’re designing for, and ends with a solution that meets their needs. At AzuKo we use it to help people out of poverty; designing spaces and services which improve lives.

Competition winners

In May 2020 we created a mini design challenge for young people aged 11 to 18. We received inspiring ideas that aimed to make life safer, easier and more comfortable. We’re thrilled to announce the winners of our competition:

Eloise Evans & Daisy John, Royal High School Bath

Their innovative idea combines a communal cookstove with a greenhouse. It encourages conversation between neighbours, improves air quality, maximises the use of space, and helps to grow vegetables.

We designed this stove for seven people... wood collection could be shared between the families meaning each person is only required to collect fuel once a week.
